Excuse me? How? What is this, I don’t even…
Alright, enough questions. Here’s the answer: Hex Packets
…What???
5…4…3…2…1…GO!! (so long Brawl announcer, hello TF2 announcer)
What I present to you is the revolution in Sound Effect Hacking. Who wants to download 101 MB of data just for one effect, or what if you want to add sounds to a .brsar you already have? Hex Packets are the answer. What you do is just follow the simple directions that stickman included for you and there you go! It is as easy as copy and paste.
Requirements:
- a .brsar to edit
- one of my Hex Packets
- a hex editor (I HIGHLY recommend HxD. it is free and functional)
This hack replaces the announcer countdown at the beginning of matches and the at the end of time matches. The Heavy also makes an appearance to yell GO!!
So now the only thing left to do is give you a download and a YouTube video right? OK, done!
(the background was made in GMod)
If you need additional help, leave a comment or contact stickman directly on any IM client that he has, which can be found on the team page. Good luck!
-your friendly neighborhood stickman

rofl epic also thank you for it being a hex packet and not a bsrar
Why didn’t you use the announcer saying “Fight!” instead of the Heavy? It’s called announcer_am_roundstart01.wav in the game files.
@Segab, I couldn’t find it at the time hahaha
I like Heavy there though, it makes it kind of funny
when you start a fight it goes 3,2,1,go at the end of a times game it goes 5,4,3,2,1,time up, time up is replaced with heavy and go is the same then isn’t it?
I just have them like that in the video. It starts out, 3 2 1 GO, and then its 5 4 3 2 1 Time, where i didnt change time.
and @Segab again, I remembered now, I did see Fight, it was just too long.
I love you. This is epic.
Well this is awesome. Nice work. :3
Now do you think we can have a tutorial on how to make our own hex packets? That would be incredibly useful. ¦D
Is the 3,2,1 from the start of a match and the one from the end(5,4,3,2,1) the same track?
@Wave, no
@KAZECoyote yeah. the 3 2 1 are the same and the end adds 5 and 4
Inb4 a million people ask how to get this working. (Riivolution people!)
Hidden due to low comment rating. Click here to see.
Is there a list for the different offsets in the smashbros_sound.brsar and what they correspond to? In the README file it says that the offset to search for is 4C0AD00, but that’s only if you want to replace the 3,2,1 GO! SFX… The only other offset I know of is 4C861E0 and I think that’s if you want to replace the “Lucario” announcer call SFX.
There isn’t an official list. My list grows with each sound I replace. Trust me, if there was a list out there, everyone would be replacing sounds. I just tell you where to put the sounds so you don’t have to look for them. (And no i can’t share my list yet… its in my notebook
)
“sigh”looks like i’ll haz to use riivolution again.0.o
This is awesome.
Will this work with a japanese brsar?
@Jiggz
Yes. Talking about that, think you could send yours to me? I lost mine two years ago.
So trying to keep info to yourself just to have a monopoly on sound hacks and make yourself look better.
Yeah, you just lost a lot of respect from me. Didn’t think you were that shallow. -.o
TF2 announcer is cool, but no one is better than the Brawl Announcer… XD
Very nice, this might mean we’ll have Mewtwo’s Melee Voice on Lucario soon? Or perhaps Melee Link voice on Brawl Link?
Umm there already is a Melee mod for lucario. but i am having a HUGE problem, i think this should be done ALOT easier, i want my, lloyd/mewtwo/announcer mods, but they are pain to add.
@Wave, that’s not what I’m trying to do. I don’t want to give people bits of broken information before I release my (unfinshed) guide. In my first comment to you, I was joking around, but apparently I come off extremely rude and I apologize for that. I could have at least said “No, not yet.”
So now to clear up any confusion but spoil every next surprise I have, just keep reading.
Yes I am making a sound replacement guide. I did have one finished, but I learned more things to make the sounds better, so I need to revise it.
Now sorry to sound like VILE for this next part: there really is nothing stopping you from learning how to do this on your own. That is exactly what I did around the same time YOU said you were going to do that. Obviously I guess that didn’t happen. But to call me out on monopolizing… I was trying to keep it a secret for my next update. Please privately discuss these things before making me look like a d-bag in front of everyone else.
@Jiggz, I’m not sure. This was done on a NTSC-U brsar
@Ultraxwing, I’m sorry, but this is the easiest way to do it short of making you download 101MB of stuff for 5 hacks that you can’t add to other brsars.
